South African Business Coalition on HIV and AIDS (SABCOHA)

March 2010 – Date
We have been working with SABCOHA since March 2010. We have been training formal and informal Small entrepreneurs on how to start a business, marketing a small or micro business, assessing the risks for a small business, including HIV/AIDS. We have trained an average of 300 people per year since year 2010, in Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg Metro, West Rand, Mogale, and Sedibeng local municipalities.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (FREE STATE)

February – May 2015
WE trained 12 EPWP beneficiaries from NGOs in the Maluti A Phufong local municipality in the Free State. All the learners have been trained, assessed, moderated and are awaiting verification. The skills programmes they were trained on are from the qualification 49872: FETC Victim Empowerment Co-ordination. Below are the unit standards that we trained.
120082: Provide interventions in gender violence
120084: Establish and maintain strategic partnerships and referral systems in the Victim Empowerment
120079: Provide support to victims of serious violent crime

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (GAUTENG PROVINCE)

June – May 2015
We are training 25 Lay counsellors from Ekurhuleni Metro on the course 49256: NQF Level 4: FET Certificate: Counselling accredited by the HIWSETA. The learners are currently on their experiential learning phase of the course in Primary Healthcare centres in the Ekurhuleni metro.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (GAUTENG PROVINCE)

July – August 2007
We trained 25 lay counsellors from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Health District on the 10 day Basic HIV/AIDS Counselling and 3 days Adherence Counselling. The course offered was not accredited but was based on the course outline but it was course approved by the department at the time.

May – July 2011
We trained 50 Community Health Workers a skills programme from the unit standards 114491: Educate and work closely with the community with regard to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including Human Immune Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS); 264260: Facilitate a peer education intervention . The skills programme is accredited by the HWSETA.

All learners found competent were certificated. We also trained 50 lay counsellors on adherence counseling. The unit standards 252510: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HIV and AIDS, other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Tuberculosis (TB) for counselling purposes and 117507: Develop and implement a client ARV treatment plan were used as per the department of health’s specifications.

May 2013 – April 2014
We trained 20 Lay counsellors on the course 49256: NQF Level 4: FET Certificate: Counselling accredited by the HIWSETA. Out of the 20, only 14 were able to successfully complete the course.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (GAUTENG PROVINCE)

March – April 2010
We trained 75 learners from Sedibeng local municipality, Johannesburg Metro and the Wet Rand. Learners were trained on the basic concepts of HIV/AIDS Awareness and Peer education. The programme was not accredited but had been designed and delivered based on the specifications from the Department of Agriculture.



DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES (GAUTENG PROVINCE)

September 2007 – August 2010
We were doing men’s dialogues with male inmates and correctional services officials on the role of men in the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV. This was a programme which was sponsored by PEPFER and CDC while Kagiso TV Communication was the implementation agent on the project. The Managing Director for Empirical Training Agency was directly contracted to Kagiso TV and communication to run the programme around the province.

KAGISO TV AND COMMUNICATION

September 2007 – October 2010

He was also took part in the designing of the behaviour change communication messages for the YCCOM campaign; Training men for from NGOs, CBOs, communities, companies & government departments on Male involvement in PMTCT; Training and mentoring PMTCT Community facilitators; Designing questionnaires for interviews; Interviewing community members for 3 radio programmes (Male involvement in PMTCT; Law on call & Culture); Training Communities on the value of the Standard Bank Mzansi bank account;

SOUL CITY

October 2009 – March 2010
The Managing Director for Empirical Training Agency was contracted by Kagiso TV and communication who were the implementing agent for Soul City to run the One Love programme in Soweto. Community members from NGOs, CBOs, communities, companies & government departments were trained on the concept.

NYANDENI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

March 2011
We trained 60 delegates on HIV/AIDS in the Workplace. The training was not accredited. It was based on the specifications from the client.

CARGO CARE FREIGHT SERVICES

April – September 2011
We conducted an HIV AND STI baseline assessments to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of employees about HIV/AIDS in the workplace. We then conducted a skills programme in peer education with 10 credits. The programme is accredited by the HWSETA.


MNAMBITHI FET COLLEGE

August 2011 – April 2012
We trained 219 EPWP beneficiaries in Mnambithi, Bergville, Mooi River and Kermburg on unit standards 252510: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HIV and AIDS, other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Tuberculosis (TB) for counselling purposes and 264260: Facilitate a peer education intervention. Dual training and assessment was conducted to accommodate learner with low literacy levels. All who were found competent upon assessment, moderation and verification were all certificated. Empirical Training Agency had been subcontracted to do the job by Mnambithi FET College who were contracted by the National Department of Public Works.

RTI INTERNATIONAL

August 2011
This was one of our international projects. We designed the quality assurance standards tool for Peer Education and outreach programs for high risk vulnerable populations in South Africa. This was for the purposes of their submission to PEPFER for funding for a peer education programme which was going to be aligned to the SAQA unit standard 264260: Facilitate a peer education intervention.

MATHJABENG MUNICIPALITY

August – September 2012
We trained 52 municipal employees on a peer education skills programme aligned to the unit standard 264260: Facilitate a peer education intervention with 10 credits. The programme is accredited by HWSETA. All learners who were found competent upon assessment, moderation verification were certificated.

MOGALE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

May – August 2012
Forty two lay counsellors from NGOs and clinics in the Mogale local municipality were trained on the unit standards 252510: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HIV and AIDS, other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Tuberculosis (TB) for counselling purposes, 25232: Provide on-going counselling and support to individuals infected or affected by HIV and AIDS and 252533: Provide pre and post HIV test counselling. The skills programme is accredited by the HWSETA. All learners were assessed moderated and certificated.

Seriti Institute
Empirical Training Agency was constructed by Seriti Institute an implementing Agent for COGTA to training 60 EPWP beneficiaries in Westonaria, Leratong and Erasmas in the Gauteng province and 134 earners in the Free State province. The Free State learners were from Metsimaholo local municipality, Kopies and Edenvile in the Ngwate local municipality, Setsoto, Maluti A Phufong and Phumelela local municipalities. The learners were trained on a skills programme on computer literacy from the following unit standards;
114978: Use a word processing package to produce business documents
114977: Use a spreadsheet package to produce and manage business documents
114980: Use a presentation package to produce business documents
114979: Operate a computer workstation in a business environment
These unit standards are from the qualification 49256: NQF Level 4: FET Certificate: Counselling on we are accredited by the HWSETA. All learners have been assessed, moderated and their results verified and certificated.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (NORTHERN CAPE)

March – April 2014
We trained 22 EPWP beneficiaries from the Northern Cape SANPARKS which has its provincial headquarters in Kamieskroon near Springbok. The learners were training in the unit standards,
244589: Identify causes of stress and techniques to manage it in the workplace
252513: Apply established strategies and procedures to deal with risk behaviour and promote personal wellbeing
117860: Apply knowledge of interpersonal relationships to enhance the effectiveness of the counselling process.
All learners have been assessed, moderated and their results verified and certificated.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (GAUTENG)

May – August 2014
We trained community health workers on a skills programme from the qualification 74410: FETC: Public Awareness Promotion of Dread Disease and HIV/AIDS which are accreted to by the HWSETA. All learners were assessed, moderated, verified and certificated. Below are the unit standards that we trained these community health workers in Sedibeng local municipality.
